Sterkies Speed Event   Ocean2Air

The wind absolutely NUKED on Sunday !
It started off at a modest 25 knots in the morning and built from there to a raging 60 knot hail of spray just before lunch time.
We could not have asked for better wind at the event, and the results reflect this.

Something that needs to be highlighted to put the competitor speeds and their improvement into perspective, each event has become progressively tougher for competitors to improve upon their speeds; here's the ranking method that's been used at each event :
1st Event - only Peak speed was used
2nd Event - Average over 150m
3rd Event - 8 seconds or 200m at 40 knots

You'll find the EVENT SUMMARY HERE.
You can view the FULL results HERE.

Special thanks to Bruce and Rob Chrystal from Ocean2Air for their suport and sponsorship of the event.

GPS Rankings :

You'll notice in the righthand menu that I've started a FUN GPS ranking.
This is intended to motivate the entrants and interested sailors alike in speed sailing, beyond the event.

Certain dealers (to be named soon) have already agreed to sponsor
prizes for the top ranked riders in this ranking.
The ranking is based on 5x 10 second average speeds, which is the international standard.
I will list my speeds and sessions, but will not contend for any of the prizes.

I hope this spurs you on to continuous improvement, feel free to ask me for help and advice.

Here's a link to my Sunday session on the international site : www.gps-kitesurfing.com
Speed Certificates :

I've
made out all the certificates and will be posting the KZN ones to Bruce and Rob at Ocean2Air today.
The inland entrants can either mail or call me to arrange to get theirs.

Here's a sample of what it looks like :

Inter-Provincial Result :

Gauteng won the inter-provincial trophy, but KZN have narrowed the margin from last year.
Last year Gauteng won by more than 5 knots, this time is was less than 2 knots !
The inter-provincial trophy is based on the top 3 8 sec averages from each province.

Gauteng :
Basil Cambanis   45.33
Anton Nel           42.66
Luke Thomas      38.79
Gauteng team average = 42.26 knots

KZN :
Rob Chrystal        41.01
Paul Railton         40.76
Reese Hendrikz    39.65
KZN team average = 40.47 knots
